Whether you\u2019re looking to tell a story about your brand or simply looking to make your clothes uniquely \u2018you,\u2019 there are few better ways to do so than with a custom-made t-shirt. Our Design Studio Software is one of the most powerful tools at your disposal if you\u2019re looking for custom-printed gear – and you can use it to customize a lot more than just clothes, too. <\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s simple to use, too. Allow us to show you exactly what we mean. We\u2019re going to walk you through the process involved in creating a custom t-shirt<\/a>, from start to finish.<\/span><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s begin. <\/span><\/p>\n

Step One: Deciding What You Want To Customize<\/span><\/h2>\n

First thing\u2019s first, click on \u201cEdit Type\u201d up in the top right corner. That\u2019ll bring you to a list of T-shirts, sweaters, shorts, and other accessories. <\/span><\/p>\n

We want something that can be worn comfortably at any time of year – let\u2019s make a long-sleeved shirt. <\/span><\/p>\n

\"studio02\"<\/p>\n

Choosing a clothing style will bring you to another page with a list of the different types we offer. Let\u2019s choose a 2400 Gildan Ultra Cotton, and color it black. <\/span><\/p>\n

\"studio03\"<\/p>\n

Now we\u2019re back in the Design Studio, and ready to start creating! Note that you can also change the color of your product at any time after you\u2019ve selected it, with the \u201cEdit Color\u201d button. <\/span><\/p>\n

\"studio04\"<\/p>\n

Step Two: Custom Text and Text Effects<\/span><\/h2>\n

Now that we\u2019ve settled on a style and type, let\u2019s take a look at some of the things we can do with our new shirt. For the design we have in mind, we want to add some text to the back of the shirt. Click on \u201cGo To Back\u201d to display the back of the shirt. <\/span><\/p>\n

Click \u201cAdd Text\u201d in the sidebar on the left, and a textbox will appear. <\/span><\/p>\n

Type whatever you want into the box, then click \u201cDone.\u201d This will present you with a bunch of options that let you customize shape, positioning, and text effects.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"studio07\"<\/p>\n

Black on Black is a bit hard to read, isn\u2019t it? Let\u2019s add an outline. <\/span><\/p>\n

\"studio08\"<\/p>\n

You can also customize the color and thickness of the outline in the toolbar that pops up on the left. <\/span><\/p>\n

\"studio09\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Let\u2019s add a shadow to the text. Notice how you can reposition the shadow at any time by dragging the light bulb. It looks pretty good as it is, so let\u2019s change the size and shape of the text, instead.<\/span><\/p>\n

You\u2019ve probably noticed the arrows surrounding the text entry box – they allow to you resize your text however you see fit. The arrows on the top stretch it vertically, the ones on the sides stretch it horizontally, and the ones on the corners stretch it in both directions at once. You can also rotate your text with the circular arrow on the top left, but we\u2019re not going to bother with that for now. <\/span><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s make our text a little more noticeable, shall we? <\/span><\/p>\n

You can also click and drag the blue bar at the top of a toolbox to reposition it so it doesn\u2019t block your view<\/span><\/p>\n

Looks good so far, but we want our text to be closer to the center of the shirt. Click on the text and drag it to change its position on the shirt. <\/span><\/p>\n

Next, let\u2019s try applying a shape to the text. As you can see, there are several options to choose from, and each can be adjusted using the slider. <\/span><\/p>\n

Nice! That one looks pretty good – click \u201cDone!\u201d to finalize your shape. <\/span><\/p>\n

Hmm. There\u2019s something about that font that doesn\u2019t really work, isn\u2019t there? Let\u2019s change how it looks. See the Font Options box to the left? Let\u2019s click on it. <\/span><\/p>\n

As you can see, our design studio has tons of different fonts to choose from.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"studio20\"<\/p>\n

Lockergnome is one of the more popular fonts – let\u2019s go with that. <\/span><\/p>\n

Hmm. Our font isn\u2019t quite centered, is it? Let\u2019s fix that with the Precision Controls. Note that you can also customize the spacing, size, and rotation of the font with this menu.<\/span><\/p>\n

Step Three: Clipart, Shapes, and Distress<\/span><\/h2>\n

Now that we\u2019ve added some text to the back of our shirt, let\u2019s go back to the front. Click \u201cGo To Front\u201d to change the view again. Note how you can still see the changes you made to the back of the shirt. <\/span><\/p>\n

Now, let\u2019s add a bit of clipart. Click on \u201cAdd Clipart\u201d to open up the Clip Art Browser. <\/span><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s add some. <\/span><\/p>\n

As you can see, you can customize your clipart the same way you could customize your text, by changing the color, size, and position. Let\u2019s recolor our artwork. <\/span><\/p>\n

Now, let\u2019s make it a little bigger. <\/span><\/p>\n

Much better! But the design\u2019s still missing something\u2026.<\/span>Let\u2019s try adding a few shapes. <\/span><\/p>\n

Remember, you can reposition decorative elements by clicking and dragging. Let\u2019s put our heart at the center of our paint splatter.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our design\u2019s shaping up pretty nicely, but it could use a bit of extra texture. Let\u2019s click on \u201cAdd Distress.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Step Four: Uploading Your Own Images<\/span><\/h2>\n

The front of the shirt\u2019s looking pretty good…but something\u2019s still missing from the back. It just looks kind of…bland, doesn\u2019t it? Let\u2019s see if we can fix that with some artwork of our own.<\/span><\/p>\n

Click on \u201cBrowse\u201d to look through your computer for some art to upload.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here we are – this one looks like a good choice. Let\u2019s add it. <\/span><\/p>\n

Some legal stuff – make sure you\u2019re using something you actually have the rights to, then click \u201cI Agree.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

\"studio37\"<\/p>\n

Success! Our image has been uploaded. Note that there are several options as far as how we want it printed – since it\u2019s a multi-colored image, let\u2019s go with Multi-Color Drawing or Logo.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now we need to choose some colors for the image – pretty straightforward, right? Select your colors, then click \u201cDone\u201d when you\u2019re satisfied. <\/span><\/p>\n

Nice! Our artwork is now part of our shirt! <\/span><\/p>\n

Hmm. The mouth looks a little off. Let\u2019s make it transparent. <\/span><\/p>\n

Step Five: Learning About Layers<\/span><\/h2>\n

The smiley face we added looks pretty good…but it might look better if it was behind the text. Let\u2019s try moving it. <\/span><\/p>\n

Yikes. That didn\u2019t really work, did it? Don’t worry – we can fix this. Notice the Layers toolbox off to the left? Have a look what happens when we click the arrow next to the smiley-face. <\/span><\/p>\n

Much better! Now a bit of resizing, and we\u2019re good to go! <\/span><\/p>\n

Hmm. You know what? This design doesn\u2019t really work with what we\u2019ve got on the front. Let\u2019s click the X next to the smiley face to remove the layer it\u2019s on. Then we can do the same with the text. <\/span><\/p>\n

There. Now we\u2019re left with a blank back, which fits much better with the design we\u2019ve got on the front. <\/span><\/p>\n

Step Six: Sizing Your Order<\/span><\/h2>\n

We\u2019re just about done. Next, let\u2019s decide on how many shirts we want, and what sizes. <\/span><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s order two medium adult shirts, and one large youth shirt. Once quantities have been entered, we\u2019ll click \u201cSave Quantity.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Step Seven: Personalized Names and Numbers<\/span><\/h2>\n

Let\u2019s say, theoretically, that we\u2019re planning to use these shirts as a team uniform. That\u2019s where the \u201cPersonalized Names or #\u2019s\u201d option comes in.<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019ll modify the look the same way we would with text. <\/span><\/p>\n

Eck. Lockergnome really doesn\u2019t work for this, does it? Let\u2019s go with College, instead. Better, right? <\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, we can add names and numbers to each of the shirts. <\/span><\/p>\n

There we go! Our shirts are all ready for our team! <\/span><\/p>\n

Step Seven: Sleeve Prints<\/span><\/h2>\n

Let\u2019s see if we can add some custom sleeve prints to our shirts – this is a special option for orders of six shirts or more, so we\u2019ll need to increase the size of our original purchase. <\/span><\/p>\n

Notice how in the top right, two new boxes have appeared, one for each sleeve of our shirt.<\/span><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s add a bit of zazz to the left sleeve. Looks pretty bland right now, doesn\u2019t it? <\/span><\/p>\n

A bit of clipart should spice things up nicely. <\/span><\/p>\n

Now for the right sleeve, let\u2019s upload an image. Remember the smiley-face from earlier? Let\u2019s use it, but with a single color this time. <\/span><\/p>\n

Not bad, right? <\/span><\/p>\n

Step Eight: Shipping, Handling, and Special Instructions<\/span><\/h2>\n

Alright. We\u2019ve got our shirts looking how we want them to. Now it\u2019s time to figure out shipping and handling. <\/span><\/p>\n

As you can see, we have two delivery options: delivery by March 28 for free, or delivery by March 21 for an extra 15%. We\u2019ll be able to select which shipping option we want to use when we finalize our order.<\/span><\/p>\n

One last thing – let\u2019s add some special instructions to our order. <\/span><\/p>\n

We only want Curly\u2019s name and number on the Large Youth shirt – the six mediums will be for Moe and Larry.<\/span><\/p>\n

Done and done! <\/span>Only one thing left to do – finalization. <\/span><\/p>\n

Step Ten: Finalizing Your Order<\/span><\/h2>\n

First, let\u2019s click Continue at the bottom right. <\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019ll need to create an account with BlueCotton to save your design and proceed (or sign in if you\u2019re already a BlueCotton member). <\/span><\/p>\n

Once you\u2019ve logged in, you\u2019ll be taken to the following screen. As you can see, from here we can either place an order or use your design for a fundraising campaign. <\/span><\/p>\n
